Methodology & caveats

Data lags by 1–2 months. Percentage of total monthly boardings in a month relative to that same month in 2019: SUM(Monthly Boardings) / SUM(Monthly Boardings in 2019), per route. Based on automatic passenger counter (APC) data; does not include historic streetcar or cable car ridership. Reported results are subject to change as data quality improves or new data becomes available. Reported monthly by SFMTA (contact: Performance@SFMTA.com). The headline figure above is this same formula applied across all 9 named routes combined (SUM of their boardings ÷ SUM of their 2019 baseline boardings) — a corridor-level rollup, not a separate SFMTA-published number.
